Box Tops Contest

Hello all-

Students will be turning in their Box Tops this week, Mon. Sept. 19-Fri. Sept 23. I will be placing a big Ziploc baggie in your mailbox for you to collect them in. These big bags will be marked with your name and a place for you to write the total number of Box Tops your class is submitting. Hopefully the students will have already marked their baggies with the number of Box Tops inside, so it will be easy for you to add up. If not, we can help you count them. I will be coming around on Monday, September 26, to collect your bags. You may put them in the hall outside your door so I do not disturb your class. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The winning classes will get a frozen yogurt party with a toppings bar! Thank you Heather Stilwell and Jibby’s for helping us with this! Please encourage your students to turn in their Box Tops through your newsletters and other communications with families. The PTO would not be able to do all we do without the money earned from the Box Tops program. Thanks so much for your help in making this contest a success!

Parent Corner:

How can I help my child at home?

If your child doesn’t know his/her letters, please make every effort to daily practice them. I sent an alphabet chart with suggestions on how to use it on the back last week.

Small children need boundaries. These boundaries help them be successful at school. When they come home, spend 5-10 minutes with them where you are actively looking at them and listening to them. They have so much to share. Then tell them it is time to play (cars/babies/etc) in their rooms for 20 minutes. If your child has trouble doing that (they continue to come out of their rooms to tell you something, they play something other than what you said, they cry/whine/say can I play ____ instead then please know that I am having trouble with them at school. It doesn’t mean they are bad children. Please understand. It just means that it takes way more effort to get them to do what I’m asking. That’s not really how school is supposed to go. There are 27 of these babies in here. You only have a few at most. Please work on doing the above mentioned activity time daily to help me here in the classroom.
